Reaction bonded silicon carbide also known as siliconized silicon carbide or SiSiC,is made by infiltrating compacts made of mixtures of SiC and carbon with liquid silicon. The silicon reacts with the carbon forming more SiC which bonds the initial SiC particles,Any excess silicon fills the remaining pores in the body and produces a dense SiC-Si composite,The infiltration gives the material a unique combination of mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties.
